Young Professionals Leadership Camp

FINAL DAY TO REGISTER is Tuesday, July 15

This experience will bring young afterschool professionals together for training, connection and leadership development.  This starts at 3:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday, August 6 and concludes Friday, August 8 at 3:00 p.m. CT. This will take place at Camp Comeca near Cozad, Nebraska.

Goals:

  • Foster team bonding to strengthen connections and set a positive foundation for the upcoming school year.
  • Equip participants with the support and resources needed to be effective and confident staff members.
  • Create a fun and engaging experience that encourages leadership growth for both participants and adult supporters.

Adult Supporter responsibilities:

  • Young people (under 19) need to be accompanied by at least 1 adult, preferably a program director or site coordinator, or another afterschool adult staff member, for the entire duration of the camp.  They will be responsible for supervision of all the young people they bring.
  • Fully engage in the leadership camp by participating in workshops and activities and will even receive a stipend after the camp.
  • Transport their young people to/from the camp.

Beyond School Bells will pay for lodging, meals, and activities for all participants while at the young professional's leadership camp.

Afterschool programs will be responsible for any other costs associated with attending this experience such as transportation and staff compensation.  These costs should be determined by each program or school district.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Where will I sleep?

A: All participants and adult supporters will sleep in a bunk style cabin.  We will be staying in Beth Shalom: https://comeca.camp/facilities/.  This dorm has community-style bathrooms, a spacious living room, and is equipped with A/C.

Q: What should I pack?

About a month before the event, we will send out a participant packet, which will include a packing list with everything you need to bring. Since we will be staying in bunk-style cabins, all participants and adult supporters must bring their own bedding, such as a sleeping bag and pillow or twin sheets, a blanket, and a pillow.

Q: What items am I not allowed to bring?

The Young Professionals Leadership Camp & Camp Comeca are both a drug-, alcohol-, and tobacco-free environment for all participants, including adults. Illegal substances (including non-prescription drugs) and activities are strictly prohibited. Additionally, items such as fireworks, firearms, knives, and other weapons are not allowed at camp.

Q: Can the camp accommodate my dietary restrictions?

A: We will do our best to accommodate all special dietary needs and allergies.  Please contact Alana Pearson at least 2 weeks prior to the event to discuss your needs so we can be prepared at camp.

Q: Where will we eat during this event?

A: Camp Comeca will provide dinner on day 1, breakfast, lunch, and dinner on day 2, and breakfast and lunch on day 3.  All meals will be in the dining hall and free of cost to all participants and adult supporters.

Q: Am I allowed to bring my pet?

A:  Per Camp Comeca ground rules, pets are not allowed at camp.
